1-to-1 Creative Field Sessions

Field Sessions with Wild West Works

These one-to-one field sessions are designed for people who want space to create, explore and reconnect with their creativity in the wild landscape of West Penwith.

Originally shaped with the solo female traveller in mind, these sessions welcome women, LGBTQ+ creatives, and anyone who values a calm, supportive environment to explore their practice.

Group workshops can be joyful, but they can also be noisy - creatively and mentally, these field sessions are designed to be different.

This is your time, your pace, your process.

With my full attention and guidance, we work with the landscape, the weather and the materials, allowing creativity to unfold naturally, without interruption or pressure.

Whether you're completely new to painting, feeling stuck in your practice, or simply craving time outdoors with your creativity, these sessions create the space for that shift to happen.

The Wild Immersion Day is a full-day outdoor painting experience designed for deeper creative exploration within the landscape.

We spend the day painting, walking, talking, taking time to pause and reflect, working across two carefully chosen spots within West Penwith.

There is no pressure to produce a finished piece (though many people leave with work they’re excited to continue developing afterwards). The focus is on process, experimentation, and reconnecting with your creative instinct.

About Sarah

Sarah MacDonald is a process-led landscape painter and founder of Wild West Works. Originally from Australia, she moved to the UK in the 1990s and studied design and mark-making at Camberwell College of Arts.

Over the years Sarah has worked as a graphic designer, painter and decorator, gallery owner and practising artist, developing a broad and practical relationship with materials, surfaces and creative process.

Today she works primarily outdoors around the landscapes of West Penwith, painting from her van and responding directly to the land that inspires her work.

Her field sessions are a natural extension of this practice, relaxed one-to-one experiences where people can explore painting freely, without pressure or expectation. Sarah’s approach is grounded, supportive and shaped by many years of working with people and materials in creative environments.

The importance of the field sessions

Over time, Sarah’s creative journey has shifted away from outcomes, recognition, and monetary value, toward something far more important and essential. The act of creating is no longer about what is produced, sold, or exhibited, but about how she holds space for herself and others, choosing to honour and prioritise  creativity in a world that often seeks to gatekeep and commodify it. And she knows that helping others to get back to their creativity is way more important than weighting up what they might produce and wheather it would sell or not.

To witness your own creativity is to engage with it without judgement, allowing it to exist for its own sake rather than for validation. Yet there is a quiet shame in doing so, rooted in societal values that place productivity and profit above personal expression. Perhaps what society fears is the autonomy and self-connection that creativity fosters, something that cannot be easily controlled, measured, or monetised, but is fundamentally human.

These sessions are an invitation to return to that space. They are designed to help you reconnect with your own creative rhythm, to hold space for yourself without pressure or expectation, and to begin building the foundations of a sustainable, abundant creative life, one that is led not by outcome, but by presence, curiosity, self-trust and (of course) a whole of of joy.
